As part of my physical therapy regiment after pulling a shoulder muscle after shooting way too much at too high of poundage, I started using Nike’s Figure 8 Resistance Band. During my five months of therapy there were a few times I questioned if I would ever be able to pull back a bow again and promised my self to ease back into my return. As I don’t have a bow scale I don’t have precise measurement on the poundage, though I suspect we are in the 15-20lb range. The resistance is not challenging – just enough you know you are pulling weight back.
My usage for warm ups before a hunting or a range session consists of 2 sets of 10 repetitions holding the band similar to releasing an arrow. 10 repetitions pulling symmetrically and finally 10 repetitions of behind the back stretching for the sky movements ends my warm up. Typically my warm up last about 5-7 minutes depending on how many other archers ask me where I got my resistance band, which I keep in my bow case. With my shoulder strain now 6 months behind me I still keep the resistance band repetitions in my Archery Warm Up routine.
I found my set of bands at Marshal’s earlier this year, and I also see they are at Amazon.com (see below).
